My Dog Pupcake, Our Family Dog Needed Help
That’s my dog Pupcake, a loving member of our family for 10 happy years. My wife at the time owned a Pet Grooming Service. Many times she came home with a dog that someone had just left there. She would never turn one over to an animal shelter, so our house soon filled up with dogs. This beautiful pup was a Cocker about a year old, and our family fell in love with her. For seven years she seemed to take a liking to me. I wondered how anyone could be so heartless as to just dump a dog like this. As the years rolled by I noticed she was having trouble with her eyesight. Her eyes were all clouded over, so I took her to see our vet. It did not take long for him to tell me she had heavy cataracts and would soon be blind. In desperation I took her to a well known surgeon in Miami who operated on both eyes. I was overjoyed when she was able to see, maybe not perfectly but she could see. For a year Pupcake could see, and then I noticed she was having the same symptoms as before. She eventually became totally blind, it made me sick in my heart. This was not to be the end of her agony, as she soon lost all of her hearing. I worried that a blind and deaf dog would be somewhat difficult to handle. Not so. We never moved anything in the house so she knew where everything was. Strangely she was able to follow me around. Anywhere I went she was there. I did everything I possibly could to make her life a little better, but at the age of ten she died in her sleep. We will never forget the love she gave us. Now, after telling you of the heartbreaking struggle to help this dog, I want to point out that in Korea and China pets just like her are skinned alive. cooked with a blow torch, cut up and eaten. Is there anything the world can do to stop the worldwide horrible treatment to all animals? I am convinced that really not a lot of people care. |
